London homelessness rises

Homelessness in London has risen by 37% in four years, according
to new figures released today that underline the impact of the
housing crisis in the capital.
During this time four London boroughs recorded a rise homelessness
of more than 100%. Only five out of 33 London boroughs witnessed
a fall in homelessness over the period. "Having permanent
and decent shelter is the most basic of human rights. It is scandalous
that the number of homeless families has swollen by 18,000 in

A rough
sleeper commented,
“We all have our reasons for being
here, we all have a story to tell, but there is one thing we all
share the same, FEAR. Fear of being left on these streets to rot
and the fear of being forgotten.”

THE NEED
FOR YOUR SUPPORT
The cold season(Oct’-Mar’) is approaching and
we need to help over 70 rough sleepers into suitable accommodations
with rehabilitation supports.
To achieve this we need to acquire 14 properties in the private
sector both by combination of purchase and renting - each property
to accommodate an average of 5 people,
Alternative 1: Renting is cheaper and
quicker as the need is urgent. It costs an average
of £3500 to acquire a property to accommodate & rehabilitate
5 people. An equivalent of £700 per person.
Alternative 2: It will cost us £25,000
as deposit to purchase each property (on mortgage) to accommodate
& rehabilitate 5 people. An equivalent of £5000 per
person.
You can help rent an accommodation for 5 people @ £3500
or for one person or more @ £700 per person.
You can give £25000 to help with a purchase to help 5 people
or £5000 to help 1 person.

Investment Option 1.
You can decide to give us a loan of £5000
or more - payable within 6 months with or without interest
- to help us with this acquisition. This option has proved
very popular, For an example, Dean gave us £5000
in April ‘05 to help accommodate over 8 clients who
were to be made homeless due to night shelter closure. In
August ‘05, the loan was fully paid back and he immediately
re-invested it for a further 6 months but now with a total
of 16 people helped with his £5000.

Investment
Option 2
You can give us a loan of £35,000
with interest and payable within 12 months. With this amount,
under our social enterprise initiatives, we will be able
to fulfill our aim of helping over 70 rough sleepers in
the next 6 months and be able to pay your money back with
interest.

Investment Option 3.
You can rent out (or sell) your properties
to us at the open market value without you loosing out.
3, 4 to 5+ bedroom properties (not flat) required. Your
properties will be properly maintained by our trained staff
and volunteers. |
Investment Option 4.
You can help us with purchase of properties
in any other arrangements that may be available to you as
long as it is to help the homeless people out from the cold
and out of their helpless situations. |
Option 5:
You can donate money or properties &
equipments (computers for training) to help us in helping
the homeless people. |
